HUMAN SEXUALITY EDUCATION
GOAL:
To equip students with the knowledge
and skills to develop
healthy relationships and to avoid sexual behaviors that
put them at risk for HIV, STIs and unintended pregnancy.
DEFINITION:
Sexuality Education will promote healthy
relationships by providing
information about sexual development, reproduction and childbirth.
It will also inform students about HIV/AIDS, STIs and unwanted pregnancy
that can occur as a result of risky behavior. It will stress abstinence as
a
responsible, positive lifestyle. Simply stated, students will be provided
accurate information so they can make healthy, responsible choices regarding
their sexual behavior and develop understanding, acceptance and respect for
others.

Every district that chooses to
implement sex education must have a sex education advisory board.
* The local school board determines the
terms of service, the number of members, and a membership selection
process that reasonably reflects the school district population.
* At least half of the members must be parents who have a
child attending a school operated by the school
district. A majority of those parents must not be employed by the
district.
* This board makes recommendations
only. The final approval must come from the Board of
Education.

the sex education instruction includes age-appropriate information
clearly informing pupils at one or more age-appropriate grade levels
that having sex or sexual contact with an individual under the age of 16
is a crime punishable by imprisonment, and that one of the other results
of being convicted of this crime is to be listed on the sex offender
registry on the internet for up to 25 years. (This law
applies to both male and females equally.)
